Originally released in 1992, Countdown to Extinction is the legendary fifth studio album from American thrash metal icons Megadeth, fronted by Dave Mustaine.
Blending razor-sharp guitar riffs, powerful rhythms, intricate solos and dark, politically charged lyrics, Countdown to Extinction marked a defining moment in the band's career, combining their signature thrash metal intensity with a more melodic and accessible sound.
Featuring iconic tracks such as "Symphony of Destruction", "Sweating Bullets", "Skin o' My Teeth", "Foreclosure of a Dream" and the title track, the album delivers an unforgettable collection of heavy metal anthems.
Produced by Dave Mustaine and Max Norman, the record explores themes of war, environmental destruction, political corruption and social injustice, showcasing Megadeth's distinctive combination of technical musicianship and thought-provoking songwriting.
The album reached number two on the US Billboard 200 and remains one of Megadeth's most commercially successful and influential releases.
